North Carolina played a lead role in the landmark national mortgage settlement with the country’s five largest mortgage loan servicers. This settlement provides as much as $338 million in assistance to North Carolina consumers and will help struggling homeowners by reducing principals and refinancing mortgages at lower interest rates.
If you are a homeowner who is need of a loan modification, the settlement allows for first and second lien principal reductions and other forms of foreclosure prevention. If you are a homeowner who has seen your property value decline due to poor housing market conditions, you may be eligible for refinancing through the settlement. If you are a homeowner whose home was foreclosed between Jan. 1 2008, and Dec. 31, 2011, you may be eligible for a cash payment from your servicer.
